Western And Structuralist Marxism

Twentieth century European Marxists working largely outside orthodox Communist Party doctrine, who reworked Marxist theory through culture, ideology, hegemony, structuralism, and historical and literary analysis rather than through economic determinism alone. This group gathers the Western Marxist tradition from Gramsci's theory of cultural hegemony through the French structuralist Marxism of Althusser and his students, the Yugoslav Praxis School, and the later cultural and literary Marxists who carried this style of analysis into the study of everyday life, space, and mass culture.
