Ernesto Laclau

Ernesto Laclau (1935-2014) was an Argentine political theorist and philosopher often described as an inventor of post-Marxist political theory, known for his long collaboration with his partner Chantal Mouffe. From 1986 he served as Professor of Political Theory at the University of Essex, where he founded the graduate programme in Ideology and Discourse Analysis, drawing on post-structuralist theory, post-analytic thought and psychoanalysis to found what became known as the Essex School of discourse analysis.
