Michel Clouscard

Michel Clouscard (1929-2009) was a French Marxist philosopher and sociologist. A critic of the evolution of ideas of progress confronted with the liberal mutations of the late twentieth century, his work is linked to the thought of Rousseau, Hegel and Marx, whose links and unity he sought to show. He argued for a philosophical account of the collusion between capitalism and French theory, as represented by Levi Strauss and Deleuze, constructing his own concept of neo Kantianism, and he developed research around the idea of the social contract, holding that the constitutive principle of any society is the relation between production and consumption.
