Cultural and Socialization Institutions

In popular culture, the friend zone is a relational concept describing a situation in which one person in a mutual friendship wishes to enter into a romantic or sexual relationship with the other, while the other does not; the person whose advances were rejected is said to have entered the friend zone. The concept has a strong presence on the Internet, including on Facebook and dating sites, and has since expanded into middle schools, high schools, and colleges.
