Cultural and Socialization Institutions

Institutions concerned with transmitting shared belief, meaning and norms across generations, merged here from two narrower groups because each held only one member: religion as the institution organizing shared belief and ritual, and education as the institution formally socializing new members of society into its norms and knowledge. Belongs here: an institution whose primary function is cultural transmission or socialization. Does not belong here: an institution whose primary function is governing or economic exchange, grouped under Political and Legal Institutions or Economic Institutions.
