Finishing School

Cultural and Socialization Institutions

A finishing school focuses on teaching young women social graces and upper-class cultural customs to prepare them for entry into society. Its name reflects that it follows ordinary schooling and is meant to complete a young woman's education through classes on deportment, etiquette, and other non-academic subjects rather than the standard academic curriculum. A finishing school may offer an intensive short course or a program lasting a full year, and in the United States is sometimes called a charm school.
