Boarding School

Cultural and Socialization Institutions

A boarding school is a school where pupils live within its premises while receiving formal instruction, the word boarding used in the sense of room and board, meaning lodging and meals. Boarding schools have existed for many centuries and now extend across many countries, with their functioning, codes of conduct and ethos varying greatly; pupils typically study and live during the school year alongside their fellow pupils and housemasters or housemistresses, and some boarding schools also enroll day pupils who attend during the day and return home in the evenings.
