Mikhail Bakunin was a Russian revolutionary anarchist and political philosopher regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of anarchism. He was a central figure in the revolutionary socialist, social anarchist and collectivist anarchist traditions, and his rivalry with Karl Marx within the First International helped define the split between anarchist and Marxist currents of the socialist movement. His writing and organizing gained him wide influence among radicals across Russia and Europe during his lifetime.
