Michele Lamont

Michele Lamont is a Canadian sociologist, born in 1957, who holds the Robert I. Goldman Professorship of European Studies and is professor of sociology and African American studies at Harvard University. Her research addresses culture and inequality, racism and anti-racism, cultural processes such as stigmatization and recognition, the sociology of morality, and evaluation and higher education. She served as president of the American Sociological Association from 2016 to 2017 and has received the C. Wright Mills Prize, the Gutenberg Research Award, the Erasmus Prize and the Kohli Prize for Sociology, along with six honorary doctorates and membership in the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy and the Royal Society of Canada.
