Nancy K. Miller

Nancy K. Miller (born 1941) is an American literary scholar, feminist theorist and memoirist, distinguished professor of English and comparative literature at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her early theoretical work introduced the idea of the invisible intertext in womens writing and challenged Roland Barthess Death of the Author from a feminist standpoint, arguing it obscured questions of gendered subjectivity, and she helped pioneer blending personal narrative with theoretical analysis in a single text; her books range from The Heroines Text (1980) to My Brilliant Friends: Our Lives in Feminism (2019).
