Michele Barrett

Michele Barrett (born 1949) is an English sociologist, feminist theorist and literary critic, emeritus professor of modern literary and cultural theory at Queen Mary University of London. Best known for The Anti-Social Family (1982, with Mary McIntosh) and Womens Oppression Today (1980), she served as president of the British Sociological Association from 1993 to 1995 and was elected a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2013; her career moved from Marxist analysis toward post-structuralism in the 1980s and later toward literary and cultural studies, including scholarship on Virginia Woolf and on servicemens experience of the First World War.
