Gloria Steinem (1934-2026) was an American journalist and social movement activist who became a nationally recognized leader of second-wave feminism in the United States beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She remained a particularly prominent voice in the movement through the 1980s and into the early 1990s, and is counted among the eras most visible feminist organizers and public commentators on gender and social structure.
