Betty Friedan

Betty Friedan was an American feminist writer and activist whose 1963 book The Feminine Mystique is widely credited with helping spark the second wave of American feminism. In 1966 she co-founded the National Organization for Women and became its first elected president, an organization built around bringing women into full and equal partnership with men in American society. Her writing and organizing made her one of the leading figures of the American women's movement of her era.
