Maurice Merleau-Ponty

Maurice Merleau-Ponty was a French phenomenological philosopher strongly influenced by Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger, whose central interest was how meaning is constituted in human experience. He wrote across perception, art, politics, religion, biology, psychology, psychoanalysis, language, nature and history, treating the lived, embodied character of experience as central to all of them. In 1945 he became lead editor of the leftist magazine Les Temps modernes, which he founded together with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.
