Family

Kinship Institutions

Family is a group of people related either by consanguinity (blood) or affinity (such as marriage). It forms the basis for social order, and ideally offers members predictability, structure and safety as they mature and learn to participate in the community. Historically, most human societies have used the family as their primary vehicle for attachment, nurturance and socialization of new members.
