DP Mukerji

DP Mukerji (1894-1961) was an Indian professor and sociologist known for lectures and writing on sociology and Marxism. He taught economics and sociology, influencing students such as P. C. Joshi, T. N. Madan and Ashok Mitra, wrote the inaugural editorial for Economic Weekly in 1949, and helped establish the All India Sociological Conference with R. K. Mukerjee, chairing its first meeting in 1955. He wrote nineteen books, ten in Bengali and nine in English, spanning sociology, economics, music and culture, and was also active as a Bengali novelist, essayist and critic.
