Otto Bauer (1881-1938) was an Austrian politician and one of the founders and leading thinkers of Austromarxism, which sought a middle path between social democracy and revolutionary socialism. He served in the Austrian Parliament from 1907 to 1934, as deputy leader of the Social Democratic Workers Party from 1918 to 1934, and briefly as Foreign Minister of the Republic of German-Austria in 1918 and 1919, going into exile in 1934 when the party was outlawed.
