Members of this subcategory whose primary contribution does not fit one of the nine more specific traditions and subfields gathered elsewhere on this page. Because this residue is itself large, it is organized into seven child groups below by subfield (sociology of religion, family and demographic sociology, urban and community sociology, race, ethnicity and inequality, globalization and world-systems theory, postmodern and late-modern social theory, and general contemporary sociology) rather than listed flat, covering theorists who work mainly within a substantive area of social life rather than within one of the named theoretical traditions above.
