Axel Honneth is a German philosopher, born in 1949, working in the tradition of critical theory. He is Professor for Social Philosophy at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Jack B. Weinstein Professor of the Humanities in the department of philosophy at Columbia University, and he directed the University of Frankfurt Institute for Social Research from 2001 to 2018.
