Bachelorette

Bachelorette is a term in American English for a single, unmarried woman, derived from the word bachelor and used commonly by journalists and magazine editors. It largely replaced the older term spinster, which came to carry the negative connotation of an older woman considered unlikely to marry, offering instead a more neutral label that can also describe a woman who is unmarried by choice. In Canadian usage, bachelorette additionally refers to a small bachelor apartment consisting of one large room that serves as both bedroom and living space, with a separate bathroom.
