A sovereign wealth fund, or sovereign investment fund, is a state-owned investment fund that invests in real and financial assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, precious metals, or alternative investments such as private equity or hedge funds. Sovereign wealth funds invest globally, and most are funded by revenues from commodity exports or from a central bank's own foreign exchange reserves.
