Descent Rule

Descent rule states exactly how a kinship system traces lineage from one generation to the next. Wikipedia notes "in a matrilineal descent system, individuals belong to the same descent group as their mothers," a rule that decides which relatives count as one's own line. This dimension groups kinship systems that use the same rule for tracing descent.
