Social Theory and Concepts

The named theories, concepts and paradigms sociology and anthropology have produced to explain social order, conflict, interaction and meaning: structural-functionalist theory, conflict and critical theory, symbolic interactionism and microsociology, sociological method and epistemology, structuralism and poststructuralism, and interpretive and ritual theory within anthropology specifically, following the standard theoretical-paradigm canon set out in surveys such as George Ritzer's own Sociological Theory. Belongs here: a named theory, concept or paradigm. Does not belong here: the theorist who originated it, grouped under Social Theorists, or the philosophy of social science's own methodological debate about theory in the abstract, which Philosophy atlas carries per this atlas's own scope charter seam.

Quote, Sociological theory, History section, era sentence
The field of sociology itself is a relatively new discipline and so, by extension, is the field of sociological theory. Both date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, periods of drastic social change, where societies would begin to see, for example, the emergence of industrialization, urbanization, democracy, and early capitalism.
